Prof. Dr. Bassam Tibi
Author and Renowned Expert on Middle Eastern Politics
Bassam Tibi was visiting professor on Islam and Arab Nationalism at the University of St. Gallen for the academic year 2003/2004. He is currently Professor of International Relations and Director of the Department for International Relations at the University of Göttingen, Germany. Dr Tibi has published numerous books concerning international relations, specifically the Islamic civilisation, the Middle East and the Mediterranean region.
Prof. Tibi held The Emma O’Brien Taylor Distinguished Visiting Professorship at the European Union Centre of California Scripps College. He has lectured at about 30 US-universities, including UCLA, MIT, Duke, Emory Columbia, Utah , Denver, Georgetown and Johns Hopkins University. He taught at the universities of Khartoum and Yaoundé and worked at the Al-Ahram Centre in Cairo.
Dr Tibi is well-versed in all the ideas of Muslim thinkers, past and present. As a liberal Muslim scholar teaching around the globe, he radiates the mindset of Western Enlightenment.
