Prof. Dr. Ernst-Ludwig Winnacker

Ernst-Ludwig Winnacker is Secretary General of the European Research Council (ERC) since January 2007. An expert on genomics he was President of the German Research Foundation, a position he held until the end of 2006. He was also Chairman of the European Heads of Research Councils and Member of the European Life Science Group. Prof. Winnacker has published his work in over 100 scientific papers and is the author of several books.
Prof. Winnacker has served on several advisory committees and is member of a committee established by the German Parliament to assess the opportunities and risks of recombinant DNA technology. Prizes and distinctions include the Arthur Burckhardt Prize and the Zimmermann Prize for Cancer Research.
