Prof. Dr. Miriam Meckel

Dr. Miriam Meckel has been recognized for many years as an expert in communication, technology, and leadership. She was once the youngest professor in Germany and the first female editor-in-chief of *WirtschaftsWoche*, the country’s leading business magazine. Her books on digital technologies and media have become bestsellers, including her latest on artificial intelligence.

Since 2005, she has been a professor of communication management at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland and director of the Institute for Media and Communication Management. She is co-founder and executive chairwoman of ada Learning GmbH, a startup specializing in continuing education in technology and future-oriented skills. From 2014 to 2019, she served as editor-in-chief and publisher of *WirtschaftsWoche*, Germany’s leading weekly business newspaper.

She was a Faculty Associate at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard and has held numerous visiting positions at Fordham University in New York, Singapore Management University, the Center for European Studies at Harvard University, the University of Vienna, and the University of Neuchâtel.

Previously, she served as an independent State Secretary in the government of the Minister President of North Rhine-Westphalia, where she was responsible for European affairs, international affairs, and media.

For several years, she was also a member of the supervisory board of Commerzbank International, Luxembourg; SES Astra, Luxembourg; and the École hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL). She currently serves on the board of directors of Tamedia, Switzerland.

She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Rudolf Diesel Medal for Innovation, the Ernst Schneider Prize for Innovation in the Media, and the Cicero Oratory Prize in the Science category. She has published numerous books, academic papers, and journalistic articles. Her memoir, *Letter to My Life*, inspired the award-winning film of the same name, which was released in theaters in 2016. From 2006 to 2007, she hosted the business talk show *Miriam Meckel – Standpunkte* on the German news channel n-tv.

As a passionate advocate for international and transatlantic exchange, she participated in the Herbert Quandt Foundation’s “European Asian Young Leaders Forum” and received the U.S. Eisenhower Fellowship as well as the John F. Kennedy Memorial Fellowship at Harvard University’s Center for European Studies. She studied journalism and communication studies, Chinese studies, political science, and law at the universities of Münster and Taipei, Taiwan.
